

ESTANCIA LA MARIA
Located 140 km northwest of San Julián, Estancia La María is an important archaeological site due to the large amount of rock art found there.
These paintings, dating back more than 12,600 years, offer us a window into the past, allowing us to learn about the life, beliefs, and artistic expressions of the ancient inhabitants of Patagonia.

The rock paintings at Estancia La María are found in over 80 rock shelters and depict human figures, animals (guanacos, foxes, birds), geometric and abstract shapes. Mineral pigments such as red, white, black, and yellow were used, and different styles and techniques can be identified, corresponding to various periods of human occupation in the region.
